Judging Criteria
Entries are scored by a panel of practitioners with hands-on experience in embedded systems, connectivity, cloud platforms and connected-product strategy. We look for substance over spin, and evidence over assertion.
- Technical Innovation — originality in hardware, firmware, edge AI or connectivity architecture.
- Reliability at Scale — proven uptime, device fleet health and graceful behaviour under failure.
- Security & Privacy — device identity, encryption, update integrity and responsible data handling.
- Measurable Impact — quantified outcomes such as cost reduction, efficiency gains or new revenue.
- User & Deployment Experience — ease of onboarding, provisioning and lifecycle management.
- Sustainability & Scalability — energy efficiency and a credible path to wider rollout.

Any organisation working in the Internet of Things value chain may enter — including device and sensor makers, connectivity providers, edge and IoT platform vendors, security specialists, and companies running industrial, smart-city, healthcare or consumer deployments. Startups, scale-ups and established enterprises are all welcome.
For most categories, yes — your IoT product, platform or deployment should be live with real users or devices in the field, since our judges evaluate evidence of reliability and impact. The IoT Startup of the Year category is designed for earlier-stage ventures that have shipped a product but are still scaling.
An independent panel scores each submission against six criteria: technical innovation, reliability at scale, security and privacy, measurable impact, user and deployment experience, and sustainability and scalability. We prioritise verifiable evidence over marketing claims.
Yes. Many connected-technology companies enter multiple categories — for example IoT Company of the Year alongside IoT Product of the Year or the IoT Innovation Award. Each entry is assessed on its own merits, so tailor the submission to what makes that specific work outstanding.
Describe how you handle device identity and provisioning, data encryption in transit and at rest, secure over-the-air firmware updates, and vulnerability response. Judges value concrete practices — such as hardware roots of trust or third-party audits — far more than generic assurances.
